Examples of this have been SEI (Smith Enterprise, Inc.), TLC (Tom Luhmann), NM SAMA (Noah’s Motors in Saugus, MA), and M.A.C. It is not unusual for civilian M14 gunsmiths to put their identifying marks on a M14 barrel they install. 308 WIN, 10/90, are common for commercial (non-USGI contract) M14/M1A barrels. I don't have proof but they were likely 1:12 Rate of Twist, the same as the unlined NM barrels made at the same time (part number 7791362). Those barrels were marked with the part number 7791173. Springfield Armory (Springfield, MA) installed chromium plated National Match barrels on 3,000 of the first run of M14 NM rifles in 1962.
There was only one batch of chromium plated M14 National Match barrels ever made. Is there any way to tell if the barrel is chromed lined or not? Forward of the gas block the letters NM are stamped on the top of the barrel which i assume is national match. The barrel also has 1.6355 stamped on the right side and a side ways 1 stamped on the top of the barrel with the letters JCR stamped next to it. I assume 1/10 is the twist rate and 10/90 the manufacture date. If it is a USGI Springfield Armory operating rod, it may or may not have a vent hole in the center of the forward end of the cylindrical section.īarrel right side is stamped 1/10, 308 WIN, 10/90, short chamber. If there is no notch under the handle or the SA marking is below 7267064, it's an early version SA, Inc. If it has a notch under the handle and SA is adjacent to 7267064, it's USGI Springfield Armory. The number on the operating rod, 7267064, is the USGI part number. A10 is the material lot code and BVO was the steel supplier. The bolt was made by Textile Machine Works (Reading, PA), a subcontractor to Harrington & Richardson Arms Co. The bolt number is the USGI part number, 7790185 or 7790186, depending on when it was made. TRW was the manufacturer of the trigger housing. The trigger housing number,7267030, is the USGI part number. JCR could be the initials of the builder.
The stock is glass bedded and the front & rear sites are NM The op-rod has a serial number with SA stamped on it The bolt has a serial number with the letters HRT A10 and under that the letters BVO The trigger group has a serial number with TRW stamped on it.
